James is likely the father of William and Nathaniel Grayless who married daughters of Joseph Waugh, a revolutionary soldier who moved from Connecticut to Ross County, Ohio. The brothers both saw service in the War of 1812. At Hull's Surrender of Detroit in 1812, Nathaniel and several others refused to surrender and were captured several days later by British troops. Fortunately he was later paroled and returned to Ohio.
