Magdalena GERHART

(1781 - 9 Dec 1862)

From a letter by one of Susannah DeHaven Carmean's daughters: "My Grandfather Harmon and Grandmother Magdalena moved to Ohio when their oldest children, Mary and Kate (twins), were still babes. I often heard Grandmother say one of them would cry when riding, so she walked most of the way and carried her. They had four more children before Grandfather died [at age 43]. Grandmother had a hard time left with six children. Money was scarce. She had to save for taxes and shoes which had to be paid in cash."
