Porter Allen was born in New York, married Abigail Gaines and they farmed in West Monroe, NY, north of Syracuse. In 1870 on the US agricultural census their farm produced 6 bushels of rye, 15 bushel of oats, 21 bushel buckwheat. 30 lbs. wool, 15 bushels Irish potato, 456 lbs of butter and 8 tons of hay. By 1880 they were in Saginaw, Michigan. Abigail and Porter are buried at Riverside Cemetery, Saint Charles, Michigan. When Abigail died Porter lived with son and family.
