Gladys Eliza Mae Cable

(April 29, 1913 - August 18, 1991)

Gladys was the only child of William and Mary Fries Cable. Both parents had children from their previous marriages. The Cables lived mainly on the family farm in Pleasant Grove. Gladys won awards in high school for painting and dramatic performances. She attended the Iowa teacher's college and a business college in Des Moines. After finishing school she was a stenographer in Mason City. At 24 she married Faber Miller and they had 2 sons. In 1947 Gladys had a stroke that left her with limited speech and some paralysis. The local newspaper in her hometown has a continual record of Gladys's social life: hosting this, attending that. She was a 'social butterfly' and attended and hosted for family, friends, in-laws until her very senior years. She lived to age 78 and is buried with her husband at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, Iowa
