Individual Details

Hannah Divoll White

(Abt 1640 - Bef 2 Jul 1717)

During the Indian attack on the town of Lancaster in Feb 1675, Hannah's husband, John Divoll, was killed. She, four year old William, seven year old Hannah, and her sister Mary Rowlandson with her three children were abducted by Indians. Mary wrote a stirring account of this time; use link below to locate that data. Killed in the attack were also their sister Elizabeth White Kerley and two of her sons. Her husband Henry had gone to Boston with Rev. Joseph Rowlandson to request help for a possible attack.William was allowed to stay with Hannah and Mary's daughter, Sarah remained with her although she had been badly wounded and died a few days later on the trek northward.[This is poorly worded and makes it very unclear who died - it was the daughter Sarah.] The other children were separated to other tribes and later ransomed back to their families. Mary and Hannah were also ransomed.
