John James contracted to take over management of the "number three Mine" in Grape Creek and work out all the coal in the mine, not less than 50 tons per day. Coal was to be loaded on rail cars on track of the C. & E. I. Rail Road. Jonah James to provide all labor and materials except a "Gin" or hoisting device to be provided by the Grape Creek Coal Company at a cost not to except $150. The company also agreed to provide a sufficiency of mules or horses, not to exceed five, a sufficient number of Bank Cars and one man to attend to the pumps by day. Jonah James to receive 90 cents per ton on the 20th of each month for coal shipped during the previous month.Census
