Jacob, Jr. Staples Jr.

(Abt 1697 - 1771)

From STAPLES HISTORY by Joseph Peirce: "Of Jacob Staples Jr. I have a very limited knowledge as births and other records were destroyed by fire in the middle of the 19th Century. He was born of Jacob Sr. and Mary Briggs about 1697 or later up to 1708. He married first Sarah Braman April 13, 1729. Their children were Jacob III, George, Sarah, Hannah and Lydia who married David Sherman. Hannah married Ebenezer Paul Jr. of Berkeley, Jacob III married Lois Edson of Bridgewater and removed to Westmoreland, New Hampshire. He was a Revolutionary soldier. George married Phebe Paul and settled in Taunton.
Jacob Staples Jr. lost his first wife about 1748/1749 and married Mrs. Mary Vaughn, widow of Lemuel Vaughn of Plympton, Massachusetts, maiden name, Miss Harlow November 16, 1749. His children were Samuel born 1752, Mary, Abigail and Charity.
September 19, 1771 Jacob Staples Jr. made a deed of settlement to his son Samuel, dwelling and swamp in Middleboro, caring for maintenance of his wife Mary and giving bequests to all of his children as above: Abigail who married in 1771, Seth Haskins of Berkeley, Charity who married William Hall of Raynham, Massachusetts about 1780. Jacob Staples Jr. probably expired soon after above deed. He was of the Militia in 1756.
Jacob Staples Jr. seems to have been drafted in the Colonial Wars of 1756, 1757 and 1759. (Volume XIV)
