In 1860 Henry, Malinda (listed as Matilda), Mary, and Margaret are living Clayton, Crawford County, Wisconsin.
On 19 August 1862 while residing in Rolling Ground, Clayton, Crawford County, Wisconsin he enlisted in Company G., 33rd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on 16 January 1865 and on that date entered the Regiment Veteran Reserve Corps.
In 1870 Henry, Malinda (listed as Miterda), Mary, Margaret, Sylvester, and James are living in Clayton, Crawford County, Wisconsin.
Henry and Malinda are buried in Yankeetown Cemetery in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin and early grave transcriptions and some photos tend to indicate that more than one of Henry and Malinda's children are buried there. One name, Sarah, is recorded and researchers are indicating she was born in 1870 and died in 1889 which is what this writer is recording. Ruth Dilley records as a child, Bernard E. who was born in 1859 but doesn't appear in any census. He may one of the children mentioned above. Ruth records Mary L. died in 1873; she does not appear in the 1880 census so she too may be one of the children.
On 15 August 1877 he started receiving a civil war pension and after his death his wife Malinda started receiving a widows pension on 24 June 1893.
In 1880 Henry, Malinda (listed as Melinda), Sylvester, and James are living in Sylvan, Richland County, Wisconsin.
