John Hardin BLAISDELL

(6 Sep 1848 - 21 Aug 1933)

John's father, Nathanial, died in 1851. Shortly thereafter, his mother, Sally Jane remarried and moved to California leaving John with John's grandmother, Ann ROUNDS. After Ann died in 1852, his other grandmother Sally ROYSE raised him. In November 1857, he was in the care of David W. and Amanda FREEMAN, his aunt and uncle, Amanda being his mother's sister. His obituary states that at 16 years old he drove four horses to California to find his mother, visited with her for awhile, then returned to Iowa. He inherited land from his father and in 1861 part of it was sold by his guardian, David W. Freeman, to pay taxes. In 1870, at age 21, he sold more lots in McGregor, Iowa for $600.
