Remains of Mrs. Mary Alshouse Brought to Walnut,
Burial at Heaton's Point
Mary C. Sine was born in Carversville, Penn., June 12, 1845, and departed from this life, to the great beyond, December 24, 1924, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 12 days.
On November 13, 1866, she was united in marriage to Samuel Alshouse. To this union were born eight children, six boys and two girls, the boys being George of Walnut, Virden of Fayette, Iowa, Charles of Walnut, John of Santa Barbara, California, Frank of Forest Lake, Minnesota and Harry, who preceded his mother in death, on October 10, 1923. The girls are lsabelle Pittman of Spring Valley, Ill, and Carrie Kruse of Jesup, Iowa. Two step sons also mourn the departure of this loved one, Alfred of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Watson of Walnut.
In the early part of their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Alshouse moved from Pennsylvania to Illinois, and settled near Princeton, Bureau County. Here they enjoyed bpth the pleasures and hardships of life. In the year of 1886 they moved to afarm near Walnut, and continued farming until 1902. During this year sickness came to the home and removed from it, the life companion of our deceased sister. From that time to the present, she has made her home with her children, the last three years being spent in Iowa, where she departed this life. Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her departure, two sisters, Mrs. Rebbecca Ebberly of Princeton and Mrs. Matilda Enyart of Princeton, and a host of life long friends.
"Grandma" Alshouse, as she was familiarly known, was a firm believer in the Christian faith and was a faithful attendant at the Baptist church of Heton's Point and Walnut. She reared her family in this same good faith. Thus there has been called from our earthly home a loving mother and friend who will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of her son Charles, on Saturday afternoon, December 27, 1924, by Rev. Harry B. Wheaton, pastor of the Walnut Christian church. Mrs. Ira White and Mrs. Burress sang beautifully, two comforting songs. Burial was made at the Heaton's Point cemetery.
