Fred Harvey FREEMAN

There are some records having his birth date as 26 July 1873; however, over his certified signature for the World War I Draft Registration it is 1874.
In the 1880 Census it lists his name as Freddie and is living with his family in Waverly, Martin County, Iowa.
The 1895 Iowa Census indicates he is living with his parents in Eagle, Kossuth County, Iowa.
The 1900 Census indicates he is single and is a farmer on his fathers farm in Springfield, Kossuth County.
The 1910 Census indicates he is single and is a farmer and has his own residence in Union School Township, Emmons County, North Dakota.
From the Emmons County Record, Linton, Thursday, February 17, 1910: "While Fred Freeman was coming up from Dale Saturday his team was frightened by a moving train and ran away, throwing him out and bruising his arm quite severely. Mr. Freeman, who is a noted horsetamer, will break some colts for Ben Haggard".
From the Emmons County Record, Linton, Thursday May 2, 1912: "Fred Freeman spent several days in Dale last week, called there by the illness of his father, D. W. Freeman. Dr. Shockey of Pollock, was called and at the present writing the old gentleman has almost recovered."
From the Emmons County Record, Linton, Thursday May 9, 1912: "Fred Freeman, the horse trainer from Dale, was in Pollock Saturday for the first time in a month. Mr. F has spent much time in Linton lately, breaking colts, and his farm work has been done by Roy Adamson."
The Emmons County Record, Linton, has several references to Fred breaking horses for people.
In 1916 the Atlas of Emmons County indicated the family lived in Township 130 North, Range 77 West, Sections 31 and 32.
The 1920 Census has him living with his wife and family in Union School Township, Emmons County.
In 1922 the family moved to Pollock, Campbell County, South Dakota where the family operated a cream station for a few years.
The 1930 and 1940 Census have him living with his wife and three children in Pollock..
The following obituary is published in "A Collection of Obituaries from Campbell County, SD and Southwestern Emmons County, ND, by Bob Dale:" "Services for Fred Freeman, 87, of Pollock, were Wednesday in the Pollock Presbyterian church, Rev. C. B. Cedar officiated. Burial in the Spring Valley cemetery. He died Saturday at a Yankton, S.D. hospital of pneumonia. Surviviors are his wife, 1 son, Orville of Sturgis, S.D., 3 daughters, Mrs. Theodore (Addie Pearl) Geigle of Sturgis, S.D., Mrs. Emanuel (Orvilla) Geigle of Mound City and Mrs. Andrew F. (Arlouine) Fjeldhelxn of Pollock, 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister preceded in death. He was born July 26, 1873 in Clayton County, Iowa. He married Pearl Green of Linton, N.D., Feb. 14, 1913."

In the 1989 Pollock Area History Book he is listed incorrectly as having a brother Thomas. Thomas is brother-in-law, Thomas Green, a brother to Fred's wife Edith Pearl. This book also has his death date as 4 March 1967.
