Leo was sometimes called "Babe" or "Uncle Babe."
In 1910 Census he was living with his mother and step-father in Rogers Township, Barnes County, North Dakota working as a laborer on a farm.
On 23 May 1926 was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) in Holden, Johnson County, Missouri by J. F. Curtis, confirmed by J. F. Curtis and G. W. Beebe.
He was the informant for the Missouri Death Certificate of his step-father, George E. Hartwell, which indicates he was living at Holden, Johnson County, Missouri on August 4, 1926.

APPLEGARTH
Leo Applegarth, 76, of the Dazey community died in a Fargo hospital Tuesday morning.
Leo Frank Applegarth was born Dec. 10, 1892, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Frank and Abigal Applegarth. The family later moved to Minnesota and to Dazey in 1902. He received his education in Minnesota and at Dazey.
July 30, 1917, he married Lilah Vaughn [note: first cousin once removed] at Valley City. In 1924 they moved to Missouri and in 1942 back to Dazey. He was a member of the RLDS Church in Fargo.
Applegarth is survived by his wife, two sons, Merrill of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Lyle of Tok, Alaska. A half-sister, Mrs. G.H. (Audrey) Beavan of Grand View, Wash., four-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three half-brothers.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Dazey Methodist Church with C.R. Rotzine of Fargo officiating. Burial will be in Our Savior's Cemetery. The family prefers memorials. Arrangements are by Oliver's Chapel.
