Mr. Percy Eugene Hailey, age 93, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Septemb e r 6 , 2003, at Mariner Health Care Center. Mr. Hailey was born Sept e m ber 14, 1909, in Rockingham County, NC, the son of the late Percy Tav n e r and Minnie Smith Hailey. He was preceded in death by his wife of si x t y-five years, Gertrude Evelyn Jefferies Hailey in 1995. He had been a r e s ident of Wilmington for over sixty years. "Peach," as he was fond l y k nown, spent the first thirty years of his life in Leaksville (now E d e n), NC, in Rockingham County. He joined the Army and was stationed fo r t h ree years at Fort Randolph, Panama Canal Zone, with Battery E., 1st C o a st Artillery (AA). He completed his military obligations as a reservi s t w ith the NC National Guard. Mr. Hailey will be buried with military h o n ors. Survivors include his two sons, Ronald E. Hailey of Angier, N C , M ichael R. Hailey and wife Linda of Four Oaks, NC; his daughter, Bar b a ra H. Robbins and husband Alex of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Sco t t A . Robbins and wife Mary Anne, David Keith Hailey, Kimberly H. Meier , A m anda L. Hailey, Jeff R. Hailey; and five great-grandchildren. While p a r t of a large, family (6 children), Mr. Hailey is survived by one sist e r , Edna Kallam of Eden, NC; two brothers, Reid Hailey of Eden and Rev. S m i th Hailey of Macon, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held a t 1 0 :30 A.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Greenlawn Memorial Park b y t h e Reverend Mark Teachey, Associate Pastor of Winter Park Baptist Ch ur c h. The family will receive friends at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral S e r vice, Oleander Chapel on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, from 7:00 to 8:0 0 P . M. and at other times will be at the home of his daughter, Barbara R o b bins, 5002 Clear Run Drive, Wilmington. It is requested that, in lieu o f f l owers, memorials can be made to the Winter Park Baptist Church, "Bu il d ing On The Dream" fund, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403 .
