According to the 1850 census, both their ages were listed as 29. At t h a t t ime there were 6 children listed for this couple. At the time th e 1 8 6 0 census was taken, there were 9 children whose names were Nancy, E st e r , Margaret,Thomas, Mary, Robert, Rachel, Malinda, and James. Over t he y e ars it had been said and written that this couple moved away t o K ent u cky before the Civil War, but now we know from land records and f r om w h at a great-granddaughter says that they settled in Lee County, VA o n t h e s outh side of Little Black Mountain where Keokee now stands. In 1 98 5 t h e Keokee Extension Homemakers published a booklet "The Village of K e o k ee - a Bicentennial Report" and on page 58it stated "In the late 18 4 0 ' s Brackenberry (Berry) McConnell and his familymigrated to Crab Orc h a r d, Lee County, VA from Scott County, VA." -- MERGED NOTE ------------ According to the 1850 census, both their ages were listed as 29.
