Death
Donald S. Bates, 87, of Daleville and formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 15, 1928, served in the U. S. Marine Corps and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He joined the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York in 1951 working in the Financial Management Program where he began as an Auditor. He next became General Manager of Mobile Communications Department of GE in Lynchburg and ended his career as Senior VP and Group Executive in Fairfax, VA. He eventually worked as a Consultant in the Kansas City area following his retirement from GE, and served on various Boards for Companies throughout the United States.After his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Bates and is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Williams; grandson, Bo Davis; stepson, John Sowinski and wife, Karen of Seattle, Washington; their children, Chrissy and John, Jr.; and his former wife, Lois K. Bates.
