The following is from a conversation (Tape 2) recorded with Aunt Bobby (Sarah Isaacson Cohen):
When Milton was 17 he had a fight with Albert and he jumped through a second story window onto the front porch. He was not seen for two months when they found out he had enlisted into the Navy. After he was in a few months, he got upset and jumped ship and he hid out about a year. He then returned home and before they knew it he enlisted in the army under an alias of Fred Anderson. He served for twenty years and when he was about to retire, he went to his commanding officer and confessed. The Army thought it was ironic and thus cleared his record so he could retire with full honors.
Before all of this happened when Milton was about 16 he was short of money, so he stole Albert's gold watch and pawned it. Albert never knew where the watch went but Milton about 15 or 18 years later went out and bought a new watch that he gave Albert. The ironic thing is that some thirty years later when Pearl was living with Harriet and Leslie the watch disappeared. The thought was that a neighborhood kid had stolen the watch and probably pawned it. History repeating itself.

The following article appeared in the Urbana Daily Courier on Page 1 on July 7, 1921."TOO MANY AT HOME , BOY SAYS LEAVES TO SEEK FORTUNE BECAUSE FATHER COULD NOT SUPPORT NINE CHILDREN
Milton Isaacson, 15, of Chicago, was taken in custody last night by Officer H. P. Bienhoff of the Champaign police force. Information leading to the boy’s arrest was obtained from Illinois Central employees of a freight train he was riding.
According to the boy’s story he is the son of Harris Isaacson, a peddler residing at 10543 Perry avenue, Chicago, who is the father of nine children, and is unable to support them. The boy states that he is compelled to make his own living and that his parents do not care where he is. He declares that he is not a runaway and that he is strictly honest and will work at anything he can get to do. Work will be easy to find, Milton thinks, if the police will only give him a chance. He intends to get a job in Champaign, buy a new suit of clothes and go back to school at the opening of the fall term and surprise his friends with his prosperity. His case will probably be taken in charge by the probation officer."

"PRODIGAL SON WANTED AT HOME
Send Milton home, reads a telegram received by the Champaign police department last night. The message is from Mrs. Bessie Isaacson, Milton Isaacson s mother. Milton, who bears the distinctive marks of his race, was taken in charge by Champaign officers Wednesday night after he had successfully beat his way on a freight train from Chicago. While confined in the city Jail the boy wrote his mother begging the privilege of staying here to make his fortune which he hoped to accumulate by the opening of the next school term. Milton does not want to go back. And he wants to escape being sent to Pontiac or St. Charles. He doesn’t like to be embarrassed by authority. But officers say there is nothing to do but send Milton back."
