The following obit appeared in the Cleveland Jewish News on December 21, 2011:"Louis 'Lou' Gray, a Cleveland attorney, died Dec. 13, shortly before his 94th birthday. In his 65 years as a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and a practicing attorney, Mr. Gray was the longest running and oldest tenant in the Standard Building at Public Square before his retirement at age 89. Donating much of his practice to pro bono work, he always told his family that he believed in giving back the opportunities that he was afforded. To that end, he mentored some of Cleveland's current lawyers. A longtime member of Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, Mr. Gray enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns and reading, and he was committed to helping others in the community. A jokester, he was known for his sense of humor. Born in Poland, Mr. Gray came through Ellis Island with his two sisters and mother at age six when his father an Orthodox rabbi established in America, sent for his family. Mr. Gray served in the U.S. Army in Europe and the Pacific, attaining the rank of captain, and until his death he still wore his uniform for veterans' events. After returning to Cleveland, he married, and the couple bought a house on the GI Bill in Shaker Heights, where they raised their family and lived for more than 50 years.
Mr. Gray was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Irene (née Kalis). He is survived by his daughters, Nancy of Brooklyn N.Y. and Wendy of Kansas City, Mo., and son Dan. Contributions are suggested to the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland."
