Individual Details
Jacob Joseph Nagel the elder
(Est, 1844 - )
The first Nagel we can trace is Jacob Joseph Nagel. For 17 years the only known fact I knew was that he had two sons; Max (Sholom Mordecai) Nagel and Morris (Lazar Moishe) Nagel. His name, Jacob Joseph, appears on the gravestone of Morris Nagel. According to Clara Nagel Allenik, "Jacob Nagel may have been married twice. Thus, Max and Morris may be half-brothers. There were also other children who remained in Europe. There might have been 6 brothers and sisters. One of the brothers may be named Archie."
In 2000 Chana Nagel Grunbaum and I discovered each other through the JewishGen Family Finder. Her grandfather is Aaron Nagel, the third son of Jacob Joseph (the elder). He had three other daughters whose names are currently unknown; they and their families probably perished in the Holocaust.
