Notes
Will
New Hampshire. Probate Court (Hillsborough County); Probate Place: Hillsborough, New Hampshire, Probate Records, Vol 55-56, 1846-1849, pp 415-416Dorcas Abbot Putnam wrote her will 2 October 1846.“I give to my daughter Rachel Dascombe my least valuable bed.” Son Eliphalet also receives a bed. She leaves in trust with the executor for daughter Dorcas Putnam the amount of $302.27. Daughter Abigail wife of George Buss receives$377.45. Daughters Rachel, Abigail, and Dorcas receive the kitchen and household items. Son Samuel receives the great bible and the remainder of her books. She orders her executor to sell her farm in Milford now occupied by Calvin Dascombe and authorizes the executor to provide a promissory note to the trustees of Philips Academy for $500. Sons Abiel Putnam, Eliphalet Putnam, and Sewell Putnam receive all the residue of the estate. Son Eliphalet is named executor.[1] [I know I am not supposed to editorialize, but I must wonder what daughter Rachel and husband Calvin Dascombe did to warrant “the least valuable bed” and having the farm sold out from under them.]
