On 30 October 1773, AbelSpaulding husbandman of Plainfield, New Hampshire sold a 100-acre lot inPlainfield to Nathaniel Walker for payment of £117. Also on 30 October 1773,Abel Spaulding husbandman of Plainfield, New Hampshire, for payment of £130,purchased from Nathaniel Walker a half-lot (50 acres) in Cornish, this beingthe north half of lot number 15 of the first range of the first division. On 25April 1781, Abel Spaulding gentleman of Cornish, for payment of £150, purchasedfrom Jonathan Chase of Cornish, Vermont the south half of the number 15 lotlying along the Great River. Abel served as a member ofthe Foot Militia Company of Cornish. Abel Spaulding resident of Cornish servedas Lieutenant in a company raised from Cornish and surrounding towns commandedby Maj. Francis Smith in the New Hampshire militia regiment of Col. JonathanChase. This company reinforced the garrison at Ticonderoga responding to alarmson 24 June 1777 and 4 July 1777 with Lieut. Spalding credited with 15 days ofservice. Abel’s son Abel, Jr. served as a private in the same company. Abelalso served as Lieutenant in Col. Jonathan Chase’s regiment engaged in September1777 and joint the Continental Army under Gen. Gates at Saratoga. Lieut.
