On 16 October 1749, Jonathan Wardwell, yeoman of Andover with his wife Rachel, in consideration of £130 in bills of credit, conveyed to William Wardwell, Jr. cooper of Andover a 10-acre parcel in Andover on the easterly side of the Boston road.11 Massachusetts Land Records, Essex County, 163:89

In his will written 20 September 1775, Jonathan Wardwell bequeathed to his beloved wife Rachel the use and improvement of all the household fit for a woman’s use while she is a widow. Son Peter is to provide all the necessaries for his wife. If Peter neglects this, Rachel is to have the improvement of one-third part of the estate while a widow. Son Peter receives the lands and buildings in Andover. Son Samuel receives £40. Daughters Esther, Dorcas, and Rachel will each receive £20 when they arrive at age twenty-one years. The two children of his son Jonathan deceased, Jonathan and Hannah, receive twenty shillings to equally divide when they arrive at age twenty-one. Books are to be equally divided among all the children. His daughters have privilege in the house while unmarried. Son Peter was named executor. Jonathan died in 1788 but the will was not proved until 6 May 1793 and the inventory was made at the same time. However, some of the receipts related to the settlement of the estate were dated in 1789. Real estate was valued at £588 including the 60-acre homestead with value of £450. Total estate value was £665.12.5. Rachel and Thomas Edes signed receipt of £20 from Peter Wardwell executor on 28 October 1789. Dorcas Wardwell and Esther Wardwell signed receipt of £20 from their brother Peter on 4 May 1793.1
