Military
On 30 August 1832, Samuel Chandler aged sixty-eight years and resident of Hillsborough made a statement related to his application for a Revolutionary War pension. In June 1780 while resident of Andover, Massachusetts, he enlisted for a term of six months to supply deficiencies in the Continental line. The troops marched directly to West Point, and he joined the light infantry company of Capt. Stephen Abbot. He returned to Andover at the end of his term. He enlisted again on June 1781 in the Massachusetts militia for a term of three months in the company of Capt.James Meloon of Methuen.Samuel further reported that he left Andover when he was twenty-three years old and settled in Hillsborough. Samuel received a pension based on his service and his widow Sarah later received a pension. Daughter Sarah Kidder of Antrim widow of John Kidder provided a statement in support of her mother’s application.[1]
