Notes
Military
On 14 September 1832, Isaac Chandler of Hamilton made a statement related to his application for a pension based on his service in the Revolution. In 1777, he served as a private in the company of Capt.Johnson of the Massachusetts militia in Col. Samuel Johnson’s regiment with service at Saratoga. He served six months in 1778 in the company of Capt.Johnson in Col. Wade’s regiment during the Rhode Island campaign. Beginning January 1780, he served eight months as Ensign in Col. Mooney’s regiment of the New Hampshire militia. He was appointed Ensign on 30 June 1779. His commission was signed at Exeter by Meshach Weare. A statement was provided by James Chandler aged 70 years of Andover (likely Isaac’s brother) who reported serving in the same company as Isaac in 1777 and they saw service at Saratoga, Stillwater, and the taking of Burgoyne.Isaac gave his date of birth as 38 January 1764 at Andover (the date differs from the record by six years, and it is unlikely he would have been made Ensign at 15 years old). In the 1832 statement, Isaac gave his age as 68 years. He resided in Andover until he was 26 years old, was next in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, then Concord, back to Andover, and then Beverly,Wenham, and Hamilton where he had lived the past twenty years.[1]
