Notes
Probate
In his will written 5 March 1830 and proved 6 June 1843, Ephraim Burge bequeaths all his real estate to his only son Cyrus Burge. Cyrus also receives all the personal estate excepting some notes and personal securities. The will also makes reference to agreements relating to Cyrus's sisters and it seems, although not entirely clear, that there have already been financial arrangements made related to Ephraim's daughters. Cyrus's receipt of the estate is provisioned on Cyrus caring for his father by providing him comfortable clothing, wholesome food in sickness and health, and the use of horse and carriage to visit his friends. Ephraim also states that Cyrus will have benefit of Ephraim's labor, given at Ephraim's discretion, in order to pay other of Ephraim's necessary expenses and charitable donations, not to exceed 10 dollar per year. Cyrus is named sole executor. At inventory, real estate was valued at $3,980 including $3,000 for the home farm. Personal estate was valued at $551.64New Hampshire County Probate Records, 1660-1973, Hillsborough County, probate of Ephraim Burge, 48:268, 44:291, 49:485.
