John Staples was born in Weymouth. In 1670, he married Sarah Atkins, daughter of Thomas Atkins of the district now Phipsburg, Maine.  John and Sarah had three children, two that were born in Weymouth and the third after the family relocated to Braintree. After John's death, Sarah remarried.
