families; a Baptist church was soon after organized, of which he
was Deacon, till he became blind by a cataract two years before
his death ; his wife died 1832 ; she was blind by the same disease

Mr. Abbott was the son of Abiel Abbott and Abigail Fenton Abbott, the husband of Ruth Hovey. He and Ruth married November 13, 1777 in Windham, Connecticut. He emigrated to Hatley in 1794 with a group led by his brother-in-law Ebenezer Hovey. This information is from "The Early Families of Hatley" by Phyliis Emery Skeats, 2000.
