Thomas Chandler

Thomas Chandler was one of the proprietors and early pioneers in the settlement of Andover. His name is 23rd of householders in order as they came to town. He was a blacksmith and financially successful carrying on a considerable iron works. He was employed with George Abbot III and others to lay out lands granted individuals by General Court. He was a representative in the General Court in 1678 and 1679. He was a lieutenant and then a captain in the militia.

Death

The gravestone says death is 1717, but the records say he died 1703. His wife died 1717, so the gravestone may be an error.

Probate

Thomas Chandler, Sr. left a will but it was set aside for some reason. In his will, there are bequests for the following persons: dear and loving wife Hannah, son John, son William, son Thomas, son Henry, son Joseph, and two daughters Hannah Bigsbee and Sarah Phelps.
