Notes
Probate
Will of Lydia – names her children – the only Eaton named is Joshua – names a daughter Sophronia Jones who should be figured out – she does not seem to be a Gilbert – and in 1837 Sophronia could not be a Currier, married and with three children – could she be an Eaton??? – she is Sophronia Eaton and marries Lyman Jones – the Richard S. Currier named is a stepsonhttps://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/9084/images/004272290_00186?treeid=&personid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=NCN3920&_phstart=successSource&pId=285577
Lydia’s probate accounting – includes expenses for support of Mary Jones
In her will written 8 October 1837 (presented to probate 16 October 1837), Lydia Currier wife of Ezekiel Currier of Orange, Vermont bequeathed her real and personal property to her son Joshua Eaton of Tunbridge and Richard S. Currier (a stepson) of Washington, Vermont. It is her intent that her daughter Sophronia Jones and her three children Charles, Samuel, and Mary Jones and her son Samuel Gilbert receive the benefit of the estate according to decisions made by Joshua Eaton and Richard S. Currier. Joshua Eaton and Richard S. Currier were named executors. Real estate was seven acres of land in Tunbridge with a house and barn valued at $350. Total estate value was $1,531.83 much of that in the form of money owed to the estate.1 On 14 September 1846, Joshua Eaton of Tunbridge quitclaimed his interest in the real estate from Lydia’s estate to Richard S. Currier for seven hundred dollars.2
