Nathan Mann was a pioneer of Middlefield, Massachusetts, and although his parentage is not certain, he was perhaps son of William Mann who was also early in Middlefield. Nathan settled on lot 3, division 2 East of Prescott’s Grant in Middlefield about 1783 and remained there about ten years before moving away.1

Military
On 27 April 1818, Nathan Mann aged fifty-six years and resident of Bergen, Genesee County, New York, applied for a pension based on his service in the Revolution. In October 1776, he enlisted from Middlefield, Massachusetts in the company of Capt. Nathan Wadkins and served through 1779 when he was discharged at New York. On 16 June 1820, Nathan provided additional information on his circumstances. He was then resident of Bergen and aged 58 years. He had no property other than a heifer and a few furniture items. He resided with his son Stephen Van Renselaer Mann whom he relied on for support. His family was his wife Betsey who was 64 years old the past January, his son Jabish aged 36 years who has been feeble since childhood, and granddaughter Azubah Horton aged 8 years old. Nathan received a pension and his widow Polly later received the widow’s pension.11 U. S. Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, Case W9908
