In his will written 25 April 1820 (recorded 5 September 1820), Richard Pattee of Salem bequeathed to daughters Charlotte and Dorothy one hundred dollars each when they arrive at the age of twenty-one and a privilege to remain in the house while unmarried. Funeral charges are to be paid by his beloved wife Dorothy Pattee. Hs wife receives all the household goods and use of all the lands and buildings until son Charles arrives at age twenty-one, or if Charles dies before then when son Richard reaches age twenty-one. His will is that his real and personal estate be equally divided among his sons Charles, Richrd, John, and Loammi Baldwin. Wife Dorothy was named executrix. Jonathan Merrill was named guardian to five minor children on 13 March 1823, those being Richard, Charlotte, Dorothy, John, and Loammi Baldwin. Real estate was valued at $3,295 and total estate value was $4,998.26. The division of the real estate to the four sons was made on 10 July 1823.1
