Lowell Glenn Wittgow

Lowell grew up during the Great Depression (1929-1941) and the Dust Bowl (1930-1936) and was only able to finish the eighth grade. He worked for Louis Smithberger for $1.00 a day. Lowell met his future wife, Valanda, on the wedding dance circuit that was popular in the surrounding Nebraska towns.
After marriage, Lowell and Valanda rented a farm from Theodore Lammli on Union Creek nine miles southwest of Stanton. They lived on the farm for 47 years. In 1980 they moved to Stanton, where Lowell worked at Luedke Oil and Valanda worked in the kitchen at the local nursing home.
