Colonel Robert, Jr. LAND

From the Rebellion of 1837 in Upper Canada, 1988: "Robert Land (1772-1867) was born in Pennsylvania. In 1783 he and his mother moved to New Brunswick, joining his father Robert, Hamilton's first settler, in Upper Canada in 1791. Robert Jr. served in the War of 1812, maintaining a connection with the militia at its end. He was gazetted colonel of the 1st Gore Regiment on 25 May 1830, and in 1837-8 commanded at Hamilton. He surrendered his commission in 1847. A farmer, he was prominent in his locality, holding various minor public offices."
