From Beekman Patent: "Born at Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA ca. 1674 and married Rebecca Ryder 6 April 1699 at Harwich and had children born there. She was probably the daughter of Joseph Rider. His first five children were bp. 20 May 1711 at the First Church in Brewster, MA."
The New England Families is not distinctively clear about Stephen and his heritage. It is in agreement with Beekman Patent he was from Harwich and married Rebecca Ryder along with the date. His birth date however is about 1665 and "was doubtless a brother or near relative of William Griffith".
