Dear Mr. N. J. Jenson,
I received your letter and thank you for your comforting words. Yes I have lost my good wife Petra. It was hard on me. We have been married 18 years and that was all we got together. She got to be 43 years old. Yes, so it goes, the Lord gives and the Lord takes and the Lord's name be praised. I hope I get to go to the Golden Hall where there isn't any sickness or pain. We have to pray every day and not succumb to temptation so we can get to the Shepherd. I thank you for the pretty verse you sent me.
There is one awake in grandmother's (mother's mother) house and Ma is gone. She was mother to me too. I can't explain it but I am praying to God to meet my bride in sweet heaven.
Serene will write to you. She is good in caring for me and gives me comforting words. Yes, Petra is gone from me and you notice an empty house.
My oldest boy is 17 years old, his name is Haakon. The next one turned 15 on May 21, his name is Marvin. So I have no small children, but it is sad for them for they had a good mama.
You have to excuse my scribbling and I thank you for your letter. God bless you and we have to be ready in our cold chamber so we can meet our bride again. God be with you.
Sincerely me, Helmer M. Hansen
Serene sends greetings to you, she will write. She is well and healthy. She is 74 years old.
