Albert Everson Killed in Fall in Water Ditch
Death is Accidental
Albert Everson, 61 years old and a former member of the Hudson volunter fire department, was accidently killed early last Friday morning, May 31, when he fell ito an open water ditch on Elm street, between 4th and 5th streets, near his home. Mr. Everson was on his way home from down town when he apparently slipped on the curb and plunged into the eight foot ditch. His lifeless body was discovered at 7:30 o'clock Friday morning by Sam Rose, one of the workmen in the ditch.
Coroner A.J. Vanasse of Somerset, was notified immediately by Sheriff Carl Simonson, and in inquest was called immediately to clear up the circumstances surrouding the death. The coroner's inquest was held Friday afternoon at the Jasper Funeral Home and after hearing the testimony of several witnesses, the coroner's jury brought in its verdict, which read: "Albert Everson died between 1 A.M. and 7:30 A.M. on May 31 accidently falling into an excavation on Elm street, between 4th and 5th streets, thereby causing his death."
Mr. Everson was born in Hudson on June 21, 1879 and the greater part of his life was spent in this community. He was married to Christine Sangsland at Regent, N.D., on august 31, 1906. Shortly after their marriage they moved back to Hudson and this city remained his home until he died.
Mr. Evenson had been employed at the Omaha Railway shops here for the past 22 years and for several years he was a member of the Hudson volunteer fire department untl it was reorganized about then years ago. He was of kindly and friendly disposition, devoted to his family and considerate with his neighbors.
He is survived by his widow; two children, Alfred of Hudson and Mrs. Lillian Asmus of Bayport; his father, Ever Everson of Hutchinson, Minn.; two brothers, Perry of Durand, Wis. and Edwin of Star Prairie; six sisters, Mrs. Gena Haroldson of Star Prairie, Mrs. Nettie Christopherson of Star Prairie, Mrs. Thea Thompson of Amery, Mrs. Alma Brehen of Regent, N.D., Mrs. Severt Strand of Regent, N.D., and Mrs. Melvin Peterson of Hettinger, N.D. and three grandchildren.
His body lay in state at the Jasper Funeral Home until Monday when it was taken to the Bethel Lutheran church, where funeral services were held that afternoon with Rev. Oscar Thompson and Mrs. J.H.T. Lee officiating. Interment was made in Willow River Cemetery.
