Yvonne (Martin) Lonergan, 77, a longtime resident of Hudson, passed away Sunday, June 29, at Hudson Hospital.
She was born May 10, 1931, in Hudson, the daughter of Arley and Amy (Stewart) Martin, also of Hudson. She attended the Hudson schools and graduated rom Hudson High in 1949.
In 1950 she won the title of Miss Hudson and had the hnor of representing the city of Hudson at the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Yvonne was Hudson's second Miss Hudson. Yvonne then went on to study music at Hamline University, St. Paul, for two years and while there performed in the Hamline University A Cappella Choir.
In that same time frame, she entered and won "Cedric Adam's Stairway to the Stars Talent Contest" broadcasted on WCCO radio. Shortly thereafter, she accepted a contract to sing as a solist on the Sally Foster Radio Program. Out of college she worked at West Publishing Company in downtown St. Paul.
On June 28, 1952, in Hudson, she was united in marriage to longtime resident John David Lonergan and had two sons, John Arland and Donald James.
Yvonne's passions were her family, cooking and sewing and enjoying and entertaining friends. Her greatest passion in life became service to her savior Jesus. She obtained a two-year degree from the Bible College Spiritual Life School in Minneapolis and was active in several ministries throughtout her life including counseling, teaching and music ministries. For two years Yvonne also conducted monthly Bible meetings for residents at Hudson's Christian Community Home. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Yvonne is survived by her two sons, John A. Lonergan III of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Donald J. (Terri) Lonergan of Hudson; a grandson, Shawn Lonergan of Hudson; brother, Donald Martin of Stillwater, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arley and Amy (Stewart) Martin; husband, John D. Lonergan; and a sister, Shirley (Martin) Young.
Funeral service was July 3, at Cornerstone Church, Hudson, with Pastor Eric Olson officiating.
Interment was in Willow River Cemetery with Shawn Lonergan, Michael Beaudry, Terry Beaudry, Tom Martin, Jerry Schlagel and Curt Cruz as active pallbearers.
