John David Lonergan

Sgt. John David Lonergan, US Army, in Manila, has sent word to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lonergan, that he is being discharged and expects to arrive in Hudson in several weeks. Sgt. Lonergan has been in the Army 28 months, serving in both the European and South Pacific theatres of war.

John David (Dave) Lonergan, 71, a longtime resident of Hudson, died Monday, April 14, at United Hospital in St. Paul, where he had been a heart patient for the past two weeks.
He was born July 7, 1925, in St. Paul, the son of John Cornelius and Eileen Anne (Burke) Lonergan. When he was 10 years old he moved to Hudson with his family. He attended grade school and graduated from Hudson High School in 1943.
Immediately out of high school he entered the U.S. Army and saw duty with the 86th Infantry in Germany and then in the Phillipine Islands. He received the Bronze Star for his services and was honorably discharged in 1946 as an infantry sergeant.
Returning to Hudson, he entered the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he graduated in August 1950 with a degree in electical engineering.
On June 28, 1952, in Hudson, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Mae Martin.
As an electrical engineer, he found employment with General Mills, Univac and Honeywell and worked in the development of several projects, including bomb sights for the B47 aircraft. He was also employed by Analysts International Corporation in Minneapolis before retiring in 1992.
Surviving is his wife, Yvonne; two sons, John A. of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and Donald J. (Terri) of Hudson; and a grandson, Shawn Michael of Hudson.
Preceding him in death were his father, James C. in 1982, his mother, Eileen, in 1969, and a brother, James R. in 1974.
Services were Friday, April 18. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery, where casketbearers were Michael Stoskopt, Greg Burton, Terrance Beaudry, Robert L. Lyksett, Robert Norvold and Michael Beaudry.
