Jens O. Sveen, 88, Dies at Home of His Daughter
Born in Norway; Resident Here May Years; Funeral is Held Saturday
Jens O. Sveen, age 88, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Jenson on St. Croix street, early Thursday morning, December 27th, 1945, after a lingering illness.
Mr. Sveen was born in Norway on March 11, 1857. He was united in marriage on December 8, 1885 to Maria Erstad. Six children were born to this union, four of whom preceded their mother in death. Mr. and Mrs. Sveen with their children, emigrated to America in 1906 and remained here until 1911, when they returned to Norway with their son Haaken. After four years in the homeland, they returned to America, where they purchased a farm at Osseo, Wisconsin. After farming for 12 years they sold and retired to Hudson to be near their children.
Mr. and Mrs. Sveen celebrated their gold wedding anniversary ten years ago at the home of their daughter, Mrs. J. H. Jenson. Mrs. Sveen passed away in 1939.
Mr. Sveen is survived by two children; a daughter, Mrs. J. H. Jenson and a son, Haakon, both of Hudson; seven grand daughters, and six great grandchildren.
The boy lay in state at the Jasper Funeral Home until Saturday noon when it was taken to the Bethel Lutheran Church where services were held at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Oscar Thompson, officiating. Burial was in the Willow River cemetery. Pallbearers were: Sig Dahl, Irving Hill, John Anderson, Simon Lovaas, Olaf Stavrum and Lawrence Hope.
