Ole M. Floren

Ole M. Floren was born March 25, 1882, on a farm near Dell Rapids in Minnehaha county. Thilde Lensegrav was born June 18, 1896, on a farm south of Roslyn. Their parents were born in Norway. Thilde was born in Raritan Township. Ole moved there in the early 1900's. Thilde was an expert seamtress, and worked for a tailor in Minneapolis before her marriage. Ole and Thilde were married February 18, 1919 in Sioux Falls.
Their children were: Myron, who married Berdyne Koerner of Sioux Falls and how lives in Rolling Hills, California; Arlie, who served in World War II and married Nadine Brown of Albuquerque; Valborg, who married Duane Brewer of Sioux Falls and now lives in Sacramento; Genevieve, who married Robert Johnson of Worthing, South Dakota and now lives in Worthing; Virginia, who married Warren Olson of Sioux Falls and is now widowed and living in Sioux Falls; Gloria, who married Herb Peterson of Crooks, South Dakota and died in July of 1964; and Duane, who served in Korea and married Susan Denney of Sioux Falls and now lives in Orange, California.
The Ole Floren family lived on a farm three miles south and two miles west of Roslyn. Ole farmed, sold organs, pianos, land, and insurance. He was elected Treasurer of Day County in 1936 and 1938. He also drove school bus for several years.
The family moved to Webster in 1937, and in 1941 moved to Sioux Falls.
Ole's hobbies were music, hunting, fishing and playing ball. He also played the violin. Myron, Valborg and Genevieve are excellent accordionists, and have taught accordion and played in dance bands.
Myron was with a USO Troupe in Europe during World War II. He and Berdyne, who were married in 1945, have five daughters: Randee, Kristie, Robin, Holly, and Heide. Prior to 1950, Myron played with the Buckeye Four in St. Louis. In the early 1940's he was also the Melody Man at KSOO Radio in Sioux Falls. He has been with the Lawrence Welk Band since 1950.
