Olaus Johnson
(15 Feb 1849 - 9 Feb 1913)
HSO, 13 Feb 1913, p1
Another of Hudson's highly esteemed and respected citizens, Olaus Johnson, passed away in this city at an early hour Sunday morning following an acute attack of bronchical pneumonia, aged 64 years.
Mr. Johnson was born in Christiana, Norway, February 15, 1849 and came to Hudson in 1882 and has made his home here ever since. He was employed at the car shops as long as he was physically able to perform the work assigned to him, and patiently endured the lingering disease which gradualy sapped his vital powers and recently took a fatal turn which the best medical skill proved unable to combat with.
He was a plain, unassuming man who had an affectionate interest in everybody with whom he was acquainted, keenly alive to their happiness and sorrows, blind to their faults and encouragingly observant of their virtues. He was one of that rare type of men whom no chance acquaintance could nournish an enmity against or find a flaw in his character. As one of his close friends recently remakred, "It would be impossible to speak too extravagantly of the many virtues of Olaus Johnson; he possessed all the traits of perfect manhood and was an enemy to no living soul, and he was endowed with a dispositon, character and temperament which made him greatly loved by all with whom he came in friendly contact."
He is survived by six sons, George H. of Glenwood, Minnesota; Chris O. Rudolph and Ferdinand O. Johnson of Calgary, Canada; Dan V. of Duluth and one daughter, Mrs. O. P. Jensen of Fernie, B.C. All were present at the funeral except Chris O. Johnson and Mrs. Jenson whom circumstances rendered it impossible to make the long journey here.
The funeral was held at the Unitarian church in this city on yesterday afternoon, Rev. Norman of Minnesota and the I.O.O.F. Lodge of this city conducting services.
