OBITUARY: Hudson Star-Observer, 23Nov1995
William Edmond (Bill) Dierks, 82, of Hudson, a resident of the Christian
Community Home since Sept. 1993, died Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Hudson Medical
Center where he had been admitted four days earlier.
He was born May 5, 1913, in the town of St. Joseph, the son of Richard R.
and Josephine (Monty) Dierks and attended McKinley country school. He
graduated from Stillwater High School in 1931.
On Dec. 6, 1934, in Stillwater, he was married to his childhood friend May
Olive Anderson. In 1991 they observed their 57th wedding anniversary with a
large celebration for family and friends.
As a young man Dierks assisted his parents in the operation of the family
farm, but later became a machinist for Capitol Gears Company in St. Paul. He
retired in 1978.
During their marriage, Bill and May Dierks lived in the town of St.
Joseph/Hudson area, but from 1973 to 1984 they resided in Deer Park.
After his retirement, Bill Dierks found ample time to pursue his hobby of
gardening and his special, attractive tomatoes were his pride and joy. He
enjoyed being with people, whether it was family, friends, or with the numerous
school children who he guided across the busy intersection of Second and
St.Croix Streets. He served for a number of years as the official crossing
guard for the school district's Safety Patrol at that location.
For many years he was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Burkhardt.
Surviving are a daughter, Josephine Treptow (Mrs. Theodore) of Hudson; three sons, Roger (Janet) and Val (Janice), both of Hudson and Richard (Patti) of Frederic, and 13 grandhildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Preceeding him in death were his parents; his wife, May, in 1992; a son
Thomas William in 1993 and a sister, Verna Wallin (Mrs. A. Hilding) in 1991.
Services were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Burkhardt with the Rev. Paul Martinson officiating and Erma Bohne as organist.
