Christ Casanova

Christ Casanora [Casanova] was born in Switzerland, June 29, 1865. His parents, Joseph and Agnes Casanora [Casanova], still reside in that country. In 1880, at the age of fifteen years, Christ came to Stillwater, Minn. In 1896 he and his brother, Joseph, bought a brewery from George Reedher [Riedel] of Hudson, Wis., which was destroyed by fire. In 1898 it was rebuilt. In 1908 the brothers added a bottling plant to their concern and the firm now enjoys a satisfactory business. Mr. Casanora [Casanova] married, October 27, 1890, Miss Post, a native of Germany, and they have three children--Mary C., Frank and Joseph A. The brother, Joseph, who is a partner in the business, was born in Switzerland, May 26, 1870. He married Catherine, a daughter of Robert Karros [Karras] of Hudson, and the following children were born: Agnes, Catherine [Christine], John and Leonard. Both the brothers are rising young men who have attained success by their own efforts, and are well thought of by their friends.

The death of Chris Casanova on Wednesday evening, March 28, was recorded in the last issue of the Star-Observer, Mr. Casanova had been in ill health for over a year. At the time of his death he was nearly fifty-two years of age, his birth occurring June 29, 1865 in Switzerland. After receiving his education there he came to America at the age of fifteen years in 1880 and first settled in Stillwater where he worked for the Joseph Wolf company for many years.
From Stillwater he came to Hudson in 1896. He and his brother bought the brewery in the Coulee of George Riedel and organized the firm of the Casanova Brewing Co. About a year ago he formed a partner with R.L. Ellis in the auto and garage business. This was terminated just before Mr. Casnova's death. He belnged to three lodges--St. Joseph's Society of Stillwater, the B.P.O.E. lodge of Hudson and the U.C.T., also of Hudson.
He is survived by Mrs. Casanova, one daughter and two sons--Mrs. Volkman and Frank and Joseph Casanova, all of this city, and two grandchildren, Florence and Lawrence Volkman, two brothers, J.A. Casanova of Hudson and Ignatius Casanova living in Switzerland. The father and one sister are also living in Switzerland, while one sister is living at St. Joseph, Minn.
The funerl took place at St. Patrick's church, this city, and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery, Rev. Father Barney officiating.
