Hawkins Family Cemetery, Oakley Farm, La Plata Maryland.
The Hawkins family cemetery is located on what was once known as Oakley farm (Now Hawkin's Purchase subdivision), at the end of Hawkins Gate Road just outside of La Plata Maryland. The cemetery is maintained, whenever possible, by the Bowling family of La Plata and is privately owned by the decendants of the Hawkins family. Vandals damaged and stole some stones in the late 1970's. The following records include the inscriptions on the stolen stones recorded prior to the vandalism.
Henry Holland Hawkins, Died Nov. 27, 1750, Aged 67 years:
Henry Hawkins, son of Henry Holland Hawkins and Joan his wife, He was born Dec. 31, 1727 and died March 11, 1770, aged 43 years, Erected by his sister Jane Hawkins
Col Samuel Hawkins, Born Feb. 28, 1766, Died June 23, 1833, Aged 66 years,
(This stone was stolen. The grave is now marked with the broken portion of a stone damaged during the same act of vandalism. A small uninscribed footstone was also taken Col. Samuel was a veteran of the War of 1812).

(A small rectangular, uninscribed footstone survives. The style of the headstone is identical to the style of the missing stone of Col. Samuel Hawkins' grave)
