Provincial Court April 1763Stephen Compton and Wife and Anne Dent's Lessee
against
Jane Bruce
Elizabeth Hanson aged seventy Five Years or thereabouts being sworn on the Holy Evangelists in the above cause do depose and say that she is acquainted with Mary the Wife of Stephen Compton and M.rs Anne Dent that they were always deemed to be sisters and the Daughters of Jn.o Warren; that she understood that Jn.o Warren intermarried with Judith Townley and that M.rs Compton & Mrs Dent were Daughters of that Marriage; That she his Deponant was Married to Benjamin Warren the reputed Brother of John Warren that the said Benjamin and John Warren were Deemed to be the Sons of Humphrey and Margery Warren that she this Deponent lived in Picawaxen after she was married to Benjamin Warren between sixteen and Twenty years & never heard it insinuated hinted or surmised that either Benjamin or John Warren were base born nor ever heard other ways but that the sid Humphrey and Margery were Lawfully married, This Deponent declared further that she had Issue by her husband Benjamin Warren a son whose Name was Humphrey & that her said son Humphrey was living at the Time of his fathers decease, but dyed the day following; That she never Knew or heard that John Warren had any other children but the above said Mary Compton and Ann Dent that she this Deponant knowes the Plantation where Jane the Widow of Charles Bruce now lives that next before Charles Bruce possessed the said plantation Jn.o Bruce lived thereon and next before him John Warren lived there, that next before John Warren she this Deponent & her Husband Benjamin Warren lived upon the same land and that she has heard it sayd that Humphrey Warren the supposed Father to Benjamin & John Warren lived upon the said Plantation before her & her said Husband And further this Deponents saith not Sworn before me the 2.d day of May 1763 In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
