[NOTE: Do not know if this is the same Joseph Smith, but since he has a connection of Jacob Giles, who has a Coale connection, I am noting all entries that seem to pertain to this Joseph Smith.]
(2) 1757, 29 Sep: Joseph Smith, at Onion's Iron Works in Baltimore Co., has a schooner for sale, now lying in Gunpowder River.
(2) 1758, 20 Apr: Joseph Smith announced an auction to be held at Onion's Iron Works, on Gunpowder River, in Baltimore Co. Goods for sale include livestock, slaves, salt, sundries. The Iron Works will be rented.
(2) 1758, 28 Sep: Joseph Smith, at Joppa, offers for sale the Brigantine Betsy Russell, lyi ng in the Northwest Branch of Patapsco River. Apply to Joseph Watkins at Onion's Iron Works o r Capt. Thomas Hammond on board.
(2) 1759, 26 Jul: Joseph Smith, living at Onion's Iron Works in Baltimore Co., reports a run-away Irish servant man named Lawrence Smith, age about 30.
(2) 1760, 17 Apr: Joseph Smith, at Onion's Iron Works, says he will not deal with Edward Norwood.
(2) 1760, 14 Aug: Edward Norwood says that Joseph Smith, iron-master, in Baltimore Co., mortgaged 32 Negroes to Norwood.
(2) 1760, 18 Sep: Joseph Smith printed a notice regarding the mortgage advertised by Edward Norwood. Smith has taken out a suit of Chancery against Norwood, as well as suits in Provincial Court.
(2) 1761, 2 Jan: Jacob Giles and William Young, in Baltimore Co., ask those indebted to Joseph Smith, late at Onion's Iron Works, to make immediate payment.
(2) 1761, 29 Jan: Edward Norwood, in Baltimore Co., printed a notice regarding the ad placed by Jacob Giles and William Young asking persons indebted to Joseph Smith, late at Onion's Iron Works, to make payments to them. Norwood says that Smith is indebted to him. On the same date, Joseph Smith at Onion's Iron works printed a notice that Edward Norwood had trespassed on the Iron Works land by cutting down wood for making pig-iron at the Furnace.
