"Page 34. On Jul 19, 1777, Letters of Administration were granted on the estate of Bennet Brawner, to Mary Anne Brawner, his widow.
Securities = James Ratliff and William Jones. Bond = 200 £.
Appraisers: Jno Maddox & Saml Lucket.
On Oct 18, 1777, the inventory was received, appraised to 30 £ 2 shillings 4 1/2 pence." [p. 17 in TLC book]

Includes: 4 cattle, 7 pigs, 1 horse, 7 sheep; 3 beds, 6 plates of Queens China, 8 knives and forks. Total: 30 £ 2 shillings 4 1/2 pence. Signed - Jno Maddox, Samuel Lucket.
Next of kin: William Brawner, Anne Brawner.
Creditors: Richard Speake, Robert Mundell for Jno Glasford and Co.

"Page 269. Benet Brawner's final Account. Jan 12, 1779. The account of Mary Ann Brawner, administratrix of Bennet Brawner, late of CC deceased, viz -
Debts include: the inventory of sd deceased's estate, exhibited into Orphan Court on Oct 18, 1777, amounting to 30 £ 2 shillings 4 pence; tobacco left by the deceased; a crop made the year the deceased died, 12 barrels of corn. The whole amount: 54 £ 3 shillings 11 pence.
Disbursements went to: Richard Speake; Walter Hanson, Register, for letters and for recording inventory and for stating, passing, and recording this account; the accountant for maintaining the family until Jan 1 following when the deceased died. Balance accountable: 36 £ 19 shillings 1 pence.
Final account: 54 £ 3 shillings 11 pence.
Securities: James Ratliff and William Jones.
Representative: the widow and 2 sons, Henry Brawner, 4 years old last July 29, Daniel Brawner, 2 years old last Apr 7. Proved on Jan 12, 1779 by Mary Ann Brawner, the accountant afd." [pp. 117-118 in the TLC book]

Bennett. Private, Militia, Capt. Francis Mastin's Company, 26th Battalion, from March 19, 1776 through 1777 [Ref:M-158, K-1814]. He was deceased by January 1779 (date of final account). [Ref: GG-269].

Thomas Semmes, son of James and Mary (Simpson) Semmes, was born at "Semmes's Amendment" in Charles County during 1754. In February, 1779, he married Mary Ann Brawner, the widow of Bennett Brawner, who died in Charles County in 1776. The latter's estate was settled on January 18, 1779, when the balance was distributed to the widow, Mary Ann Brawner, and two sons-Henry Brawner aged 4 and Daniel Brawner aged 2. She had been born a Miss Ratcliff, a family which had settled early in Charles County.
