Notes
Event
In 1778 the Indians invaded their home and killed his father and grandfather, and carried into captivity his sister Frances, five years old. The family searched for her for sixty years. In 1838 Joseph and a brother found her, the widow of an Indian chief, living comfortably on the Mississinawa River, near Peru, Indiana, and unwilling to return to civilation. The story of her life is beautifully told in a poem written by our cousin Caleb Earl Wright, of Doylsetown, Pa., in 1889.
