The Wyoming Massacre occurred on July 3, 1778, but with a feeling of security the family of Jonathan Slocum, residing near the Wilkes Barre fort, did not flee as nearly did all the others who escaped butchery. They were Quakers with firm, noncombative principles, friendly with the red men."Death
