Death
Helen C. "Mickey" Furr, 87, of Front Royal died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal conducted by the Rev. Jim Bunce. Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens in Waterlick. Mrs. Furr was born October 9, 1922, in Warrenton, Virginia, daughter of the late Clifton Stuart and Alberta Kessler Cubbage. She worked as a clerk for the Government Quartermaster, Washington D.C. before retiring from Avtex with over 35 years of service. She was a member of Marlow Heights Baptist Church where she served as a deacon and was very active with many other organizations of the church. She took two mission trips, one to Prague and then to Germany. She was named outstanding citizen of the year in 1988 and was a member of many organizations including the Warren County Senior Center, Warren Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Senior Citizen Bowling League, Lioness Club, Red Hat Ladies (Hell Town Hatters), Council of Churches, St. Luke's Children's Clinic, and served on the Front Royal Federal Credit Union Credit Committee. Surviving are two daughters Barbara Hartsell and Carol Taylor both of Front Royal; a son Richard "Dickie" Furr of Front Royal; six grandchildren Neil Taylor, Kara Wooddell, Tad Hartsell, Ben Hartsell, Christina Furr, and Cody Furr; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
