Death
Helen Elizabeth Furr, lifelong Okmulgee resident, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at her home. She was 103 years of age. Helen was born June 11, 1913 in Okmulgee to the late James Thomas and Lula Ethel (Cypert) French. She met Odis (Bill) Furr while teaching school in the Bryant Community and they married on April 10, 1936. She worked for many years in the Okmulgee County Court Clerk’s Office. She later retired from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a Social Worker. Helen loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids and enjoyed cooking. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Sharon Kay Furr and a sister, Betty Romig. Survivors include her daughters, Sue Haynes of Okmulgee, Judy Corpier and husband Tommy of Hartville, Missouri and Mary Jane Buck and husband Steven of Tulsa, seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. Friends may visit the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Monday 9:00 AM-1:30 PM. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, September 26, 2016 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Phil Ball officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Bud Haynes, Louis Corpier, Terry Corpier, Rusty Buck, Andy Haynes and Tyler Hughes. Honorary casketbearers will be Tommy Corpier and Steven Buck. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
